Tobar and Charles are now...Toby and Charlie!
We’re both very happy in our new home, the goggies: Morgan and Mollie are fun, Morgan likes to give us a bath all the time. We chase each other up and down the stairs and sleep on the back of Mom’s chair. Our older brother Odie sometimes makes faces at us but he’s very kind and patient with us. There is this really cool green couch in the front room that we like to hide under. We’re so glad we were adopted!

We renamed our puppy "Phoebe" (she formerly was "Tonya").  Just when we thought we could not love a dog more than our previous dog, Phoebe came along and immediately grabbed our hearts.  She grabbed us from the moment we saw her at the Beverly Shelter in that group of puppies, where her eyes reached out to us.  She still speaks to us with her beautiful green eyes.
She's the most lovable dog, displaying her love for us daily.  She wiggles from head to toe with exuberance when she greets us each day, her whole body wiggles & waves with her wagging tail, and she just about twists herself into the shape of a "c" with her nose touching her tail in excitement.   She's kissy sweet; her tongue is quick to lick sloppy kisses whenever we bend over to fuss over her.
She's very smart & sensitive, and tries hard to behave...although she's still very much a puppy full of naive curiosity.  She has brought us much laughter & joy daily.  Phoebe seems very happy with her adopted home, and we are certainly happy to have her!

We just adopted the most beautiful kitties on Friday and just want to say THANK YOU!!  We were looking for two lovable cats that we could love back and when we walked through the door, they came to us right away.  "White Face" crawled up on us and "Ferb", who has just one eye, wanted to be held the whole time.  We knew they were the ones we just had to have!  We didn't plan on two but we couldn't resist.

They have adjusted so quickly at home.  They hang with our 6 year old black lab and fit in perfectly.  They sleep right next to us (mostly on our heads) at night and purr purr purr.

We hope others come to your shelter and have this type of luck we have had.  We went for one, came home with two and couldn't be happier!

THANK YOU FOR OUR NEW ADDITIONS!
Jennifer and Garrett
Pookie's new name is Zisel!  (pronounced ZEE-sul)  Her name means "sweetness" in Hebrew. She adjusted to her new home in record time- acted like she'd lived here forever almost instantly- and gets along with everyone, our 5 dogs and 3 cats, even the one who generally doesn't like other cats! Her big green eyes win every one over, and she has an appetite like a small pony.

Zooma is doing just great, first we had to change his name to just Zoom as he is so fast,he just zooms by you in the yard. He and my other dog [Maltese) Tiger, get along great. He has his spot already on the bed and couch.  He loves to eat, he is now about 20lbs,a little butter ball. He likes for you to throw a tennis ball for him to fetch. Hopefully we can get some weight off of him this summer as he loves to run outside. thanks for the adoption!.....Carl T.
We went to the Beverly Animal Shelter looking for a tiger cat to replace one of our cats that died last year.  We were warmly welcomed by the staff and resident animals on a cold winter's day in January 2010.  The staff showed us a young cat perched high on a cage and asked us if that was the type of cat we were looking for. We bonded with Greta immediately and the deal was sealed.

As you can see by the picture, Greta was welcomed into our home by our dog and other cat. Greta has breathed new life into our family by her youthful antics and loving personality. Thanks to the BAS for taking such good care of the animals and making the adoption process simple.

Hope you and all of the shelter animals and people are doing well. I have been doing quite well around here and Brutus, my housemate has too. We enjoy each other and she just sat on the window looking into the darkness. I don't know what she saw, but earlier, we were looking at squirrels, woodchucks and we had a fox show up last week. He was a beautiful orange. I am doing well and love it here. Boy do all of my Aunties and Mom cuddle me all the time. I am also told that I am quite a love. I hope things go well for you and that more animals get adotped. I also get rubbed and patted on my chest too. Aunty really likes to love me up. I think that this place is heaven. Have a good spring.

Smokey and Trouble are doing great they love there new home here with us, Smokey still goes by his given name however Trouble is now known as Neytiri, named after our favorite character in our favorite movie, Avatar. Neytiri is a Russian Blue and Neytiri's character is blue cat like creature, and there faces and eyes are the same, but she is still our little trouble maker.
Smokey is finally feeling better and doesn't even look like the same kitty. He acts like a little puppy, because he takes his toys and will go bury them in piles of clothes and will run around with them in his mouth. He also like taking car rides and runs to each window so he doesn't miss any thing. He also likes to sit in the back window and look behind us.
They are both doing well and love each other and beat each other up.
We all will have to come visit all of there old friends very soon.
Phalls is a wonderful addition to our family. We kept her name because it is so unique and fitting for her. She has become quite attatched to her Mommy and Daddy very quickly and loves us very much. Her favorite spot is anywhere in the house as long as we are next to her. At first she did not get along with our existing kitties but she and Nermal our young female cat are close friends. She brightens our day when we come home to her wiggles and whines and kisses after a hard day of work. She also enjoys coming to work with me most days and spending the day at the vet clinic, whoever heard of a dog that enjoys spending the day at the doctors? We are so happy to have her in our lives we could never have it any other way. Thank you BAS for bringing her to the clinic so I could fall in love with her and bring her home!

Wish Bone, now "Buddy" is doing very well. He is a very energetic and intelligent puppy.
He has a wonderful, loving disposition, and seems to love everyone he meets.
He likes to eat dandelions and tulips, and also digs holes in my yard to help with the planting.  He also enjoys chasing our cat, playing fetch, and is trying to learn a few simple songs on the piano! I think he will be a great dog when he gets older and a little calmer.  Many thanks to the wonderful people at the shelter!

After losing our oldest of four dogs (our 11 year old rottie Apollo passed in November and is sadly missed) we were not in the market for another dog.  Although we greatly missed having an older dog in the family we decided three was enough.  While checking out Beverly's website one day all that changed.  There he was "GRAMPS"  this old dog who somehow ended up at the shelter, life is not fair.   Everyday I checked and everyday he was still there.  I so missed having an old guy in the family that I decided it was time to take a ride and check him out.  I was fearful that no one would give him a chance because he was an older dog that was missing some fur and not "cute" like some of the younger dogs.  Upon meeting Gramps I knew I had to bring him to our home to live out the rest of his life with a loving family, he deserved at least that much.  This was one of the best decisions I had made in a long time.
Gramps, who we call Stink is awesome.  He was totally housebroken when we got him and can be left alone without a worry.  Anyone who has ever gotten a puppy or young dog will know how great this is.  He is great with the other dogs and demands respect from them, this is funny to watch.  Stink is also very, very loving and is happy to just sit with us and watch TV.  Overall Stink is the BEST!  He has stolen our hearts and will be with us for the rest of his life.

Anyone out there looking to get a dog please do not pass over the old ones.  They have great qualities that only come with age.
Thank you to Beverly's for another great addition to our family.  Your hard work makes it possible for these animals to have a second shot at life.

The Bruno's

I was found as a stray in January 2010.  I was taken to the shelter and identified as an 11 month old male Weimaraner.  The shelter staff called me Tony, and when no one claimed me, they worked hard getting me ready for adoption by putting some weight on me and having me neutered (Ouch!).  I was adopted in early February but after two weeks was taken back to the shelter.  Luckily, another couple saw my reposting, came to meet me on 2/17 and took me home on 2/20.  My new home is great.  I have a back yard with lots of squirrels and chipmunks to chase.   But, recently this “zapper thing” was installed and I can no longer chase the critters beyond my yard.   There are indoor animals here too; two cats who seem to be a bit scared and have yet to come out to play with me.  I have a new name, Hadrian, after the Roman emperor who built a wall across England.   I am told that having a regal name is fitting of my breed.  I have been microchipped so I won’t get lost again, and on 5/3 graduated from beginning obedience class.  I’m not sure I understood it, but my owners seem pleased.  They say I will take the advanced class soon.  Overall, life is good.  My only problem is that I am still underweight.  So far, the vet says I am healthy and we hope that with extra food and time I will slowly and steadily gain a few pounds.  Till then, I will happily devour all the kibble and homemade meals and treats my owners will allow.
Love, Hadrian
We have renamed Julio to Boomer. Boomer has become one of the family.  He has a few favorite spots in the house to sleep - during the night he'll sneak up on the couch.  When I arrive at home from work, he is right by the door waiting for me.  He loves to go on long walks especially down by the lake.  Boomer has met other dogs and is quite friendly, only a couple he did not like very much.
He follows me around like a shadow.  Boomer is a very special and wonderful guy.

This year my family lost a wonderful dog and companion.  He was my Best Dog Friend.  I missed the companionship of my beautiful 98lb curly coat retriever,  so I decided it was time to look for another dog.  It was a tough decision since we are busy and I always felt guilty when no one was home.   I prayed for my last dog and decided I should send another prayer request and hope I make out well like the last time.  Ten minutes after that prayer, I met Baby Girl, now our Ali.  It was a little adjustment in the beginning for us all.   She still needs training, but she fits into our family great.  She loves us all & we all love her back!!  I am grateful for the shelter & wish many blessing on continuing the care, love and shelter for the animals.

Sincerely Ali's new family,
Janice, Rick, Brad & Brian Howard
Lilly (Cocoa) is doing great here in her new home with her new mom and dad (Mary and Justin) She is truly meshing in well into the role as the Campground pup! Campers love to see her wag her tail and smile their way, she really brightens up their days! And as for us, she really is a gift! She is still getting used to the water but she loves to KAYAK and CANOE!!!! And she sure does love fetch! We are so happy that the Beverly Animal Shelter brought Lilly to us. She’s just one of the family now!!!

As you already know, Ace is the absolute best dog in the world, and the whole family is in love with him. Here's how we got him: A couple months ago a friend of mine was looking for a dog on your website, and I saw Ace. He seemed like a great dog, but the dog we had already did not play well with others. Then a month ago our dog died. (She was a pit bull mix from the Los Angeles Downtown Dog Rescue. Shemp spent the younger part of her life living under a bridge with a homeless guy, and her last years sleeping on our sofa in front of the fire, so you might say she had the best of both worlds.)
After a couple weeks I remembered about Ace and decided to look him up again, and lo and behold he was still there! We wanted to adopt another pit mix, but it was important that it be a dog who got along well with small dogs so my mother-in-law could finally bring her poodles over. The fact that Ace got along with cats really clinched it. So even though we were all still sad from Shemp's death, I persuaded my husband that Ace was a really special guy and we should at least go meet him.
At first Ace was very distracted and did not pay attention to us, and my husband was concerned he would not bond with us. But then we walked away and observed him with one of the volunteers. He greeted her with so much affection, it was clear we would get on just fine. The first night he sat by the door a lot--I think he missed everyone at the shelter and was waiting to be taken home. Eventually he came into the living room where the four of us were sitting on the sofa watching a movie, and he stretched out across all of our laps. And that was that!
How could it be that no one else took him home before us? Was it his pit bull face? Whatever the reason, we are blessed that we got to have him. He is so gentle and so affectionate, eager to please and quick to learn. Plus he is such a clown, he makes us laugh all day with his antics. Yesterday we took him to the creek, and he kept pouncing on the bubbles and trying to drink them all. And, of course, with his handsome looks and friendly nature, he makes friends wherever he goes. Our younger daughter used to cry every night because she missed Shemp, and now when she gets sad she snuggles up with Ace and is happy.
Thanks again for adopting this special boy to us.
Sincerely,
Anna Root
Odie is doing great!! The day I picked him up at Beverly Animal Shelter he looked like he just wanted to be held in someones arms. Well when I adopted him he was so happy that he just kept barking the whole car ride home. When I got him home he did have some potty problems but nothing that a little time wouldn't hurt. He was just nerves and scared and didn't know what was going on. But now he is the happiest little dog that there ever was. He runs around ALOT in his big back yard. He loves to play with his big sister. He loves to chase the chickens around and try to play with them. But when night time comes around he mellows out and jumps up our your lap and gets ready for bed. He is the best little dog that I have ever adopted, and he will always have a place in my home!

Bev's name is now Belle and we kept Buttercup's name. Both cats are doing great and we are very happy to have them as a part of our family.

From the moment we brought them home, Buttercup made herself at home playing with our 2 boys.  The older children absolutely love them both too.  Every night both Belle and Buttercup make their rounds and say goodnight to everyone.  Belle has been a bit shy around the two young boys but has warmed up to the rest of us.  She is quiet and shy and has found her quiet place in the house where she can hide if necessary and rest.  Buttercup on the other hand is quite the opposite.  She is a friendly, outgoing kitty who loves to play.

It is perfect that my Star Wars loving boys wouldn't for a moment think about changing Chewy's name (short for Chewbacca!), since he does resemble Chewbacca, and when wrestling with our dog Jack, he even SOUNDS like Chewbacca!

He loves his squeaky toys, going for walks, or for rides in the truck, playing ball and tug of war, and is eager to learn when my 7 and 9 year old sons are teaching him new tricks and commands.

He is initially protective when grownup strangers approach, giving a soft growl and a warning bark, but they become his best friends once we tell him they are okay.  There is no wariness with any child that comes over- he instantly loves every one of them!

With all of the running and playing they do all day now, he is helping our border collie mix, Jack, lose some much needed weight.  They make much use of our large yard, now that he is all trained on the invisible fence. Poor Jack tried hard to play with our last dog, Tasha, who had a chronic torn ligament and couldn't get around well.   When we had to put our beloved Tasha down, Jack would sit forlornly in Tasha's favorite spot, not wanting to play or do anything.  Now Jack and Chewy are inseperable, with Jack trying to teach Chewy the seriousness buisness of keeping squirrels and birds and rabbits out of the yard, and Chewy teaching Jack the serious business of wrestling and playing tag and digging around in the flower beds and the kids sandbox.

I know that he was unsuccessfully adopted out two times previously, but that must be because he was meant to be with us!  We are lucky to have him a part of our family now. He is such a sweet dog, and he looks at you gratefully for every bit of loving you give. His tail never stops wagging, and he looks like he is always smiling.  I love when he cocks his head and looks at you, eager to find out what is next.  Thank you for all of your help, and I wish the same happy endings for all of the other pets that come through your doors!
-Kristen, Chris, Steven, Michael, Jack and Chewy
Sax hid for the first two weeks, here. Then one day, he marched up to me, butted his head against my leg and demanded some petting! He's been very affectionate ever since. He and my other cat (who had run away six weeks before and returned two days after Sax came home) Raina didn't get along at all, at first. Now, they play and chase each other around the house
Thank you all for all your good work!

I was looking for a female Yorkie and I received a call from the Beverley Shelter that a young Yorkie-Poo named Jada came in. I went to see her and fell in love. She is just a beautiful little girl, with a TON of energy. She is keeping my two Chihuahuas and my cat on their toes! She has fit into our family very well and she loves to play with her toys. Thank you Beverly Shelter for all your help.

We had decided we wanted a male kitten around 6 months old but when a staff member pointed out 2 year old female Nightshade (we renamed her Ebony) I just couldn't resist.  She was thrown out of a car window in front of Beverly Animal Shelter in August of 2009.  She is a loving, gentle, petite little girl who loves people once she gets to know and trust them and wants a lot of attention.  Ebony has been a welcome addition to our home.

Our family adopted Espresso from Beverly Animal Shelter a little over a month ago and has loved every moment we have shared with her. When we went to pick out our new kitty I was overwhelmed by the number of cats there were to choose from. I thought we were going to have a very hard decision to make. However, Espresso was one of the first cats that came up to us and followed us everywhere we went. In all honesty, Espresso chose us and made our decision an easy one.

Once we got her home, Kayla, our 3.5 year old daughter changed her name to Olive, but we all ended up calling her Ollie. Ollie found her place in our family from day one. She loves all of the attention she receives, especially belly rubs. Ollie loves to be brushed and enjoys all of her new toys. She is a well behaved kitty and has not once scratched on furniture or woodwork in her new house. Ollie is also a very vocal little girl and will carry on conversations with anyone willing to talk to her. One of her favorite things to do is sit in a sunny window and watch what is going on in the world outside. The whole family is completely in love with Ollie and couldn’t imagine our lives without her. She has found her forever home!

Hi Everyone!  My  name is ”Toolie-Pauline”.  In this day and age of hyphenated names, I thought I’d fit right in.  The Beverly Shelter gave me the name of ‘Toolie’ and my Mom has a dog named Eddie (after her Dad) and named me Pauline (after her Mom).  Problem was…Pauline just didn’t seem to fit me.  BUT…”Toolie-Pauline” seemed to fit perfectly!  No matter where I am…if Mom calls me, I come running.

I love my new home!  My ‘brother’ Eddie  is a Maltese-Poodle (Malti-Poo) and just LOVES kitties!  We play together every day…he loves to chase me and I love to be chased!  Eddie gets to go outdoors on a lead, but Mom wants me to stay inside.  She said she had other kitties who are now in “Kitty Heaven” because they went outdoors and got into some real predicaments!  She didn’t want that to happen to me.   So, I sit in the screened windows and watch the world go by!  I watch the birdies and the other animals outside.   Mom has bird feeders that I watch for hours! (“Let me out, Mom…just for a minute!  I promise I’ll be good…really!”  She doesn’t believe me!)

My favorite things are the good ‘homemade’ food she feeds us.  I get salmon, tuna, chicken liver, veggies, shrimp, etc.  and a few treats too.  My VERY favorite thing is this fluffy Swiffer duster thing Mom uses.  OMG…I just love it!  I carry it around like it was my baby (I pretend it is!).  Mom buys me these furry, stuffed mice to play with.  Eddie likes to chew them up…but Mom keeps a good supply on hand for me.
Life is definitely good!
With love & thanks,
“Toolie-Pauline”
Beau's name is now 'fittingly enough - Bear'. He answered to Bear and not to Beau.
My Lucky Dog (Border Collie, age 10) gets along well with bear!! Bear is fully trained now to the Invisible Fence system. Lucky Dog has lived with me for 7 years now. The both have over 2 acres to run and play and a doggie door to come in and out as they please. Bear's favorite snack - BegginStrips !!
Upon bringing Bear home he went to see out Vet and then the Groomers where they fixed his knots and matted areas making him just gorgeous. In addition to training him to the fence system he had an issue with 'chewing', so we're still working on that one; but he's making huge improvements there. Bear is a very loving dog and both Lucky Dog and I are happy that I found him.

Peter Peter Pumpkin Eater is now “Petey.” He spent about a year at the Beverly Shelter after being picked up at the Waterloo ARC home. He had been poking around the home for some time and no one knows how he came to be there.
Rosie is my sweet eleven year old black pug who was in need of an animal companion. Another elderly pug and cat of mine had recently passed away. Rosie loved her other kitty.
When I visited Beverly Shelter, five year old Petey was on the counter, the center of attention…and trying to snag a French fry from one of the staff. I picked him up and he immediately settled into my arms, soaking up all the loving he could get. For me at least it was love at first sight.
Petey was initially very suspicious of Rosie and would sometimes “bat” and chase her but after a month or so he saw she was harmless. It took time and patience. I think the photo of them sleeping next to each other speaks for itself.
Petey likes to eat, play with cat toys, getting brushed or combed, knows his name and allows me to clip his nails, one or two at a time. He has tried to play with Rose and they are still working on that. I recently found out he likes watching TV when there are animals on…at least he liked the documentary “Planet Earth.” Maybe he fancies himself a tiger chasing down a gazelle. But best of all he seems to like napping in my arms or on my lap.
